Ian has worked in the air pollution, energy and emissions team at the Transport Research Laboratory for over 20 years. This has involved the development of air pollution monitoring networks, and the measurement and modeling of vehicle emissions and air quality. Ian's main area of interest is in the relationship between vehicle operation, emissions and air quality and has thus been involved in the measurement of real world driving characteristics and their impact on in-service exhaust emissions, fuel and energy consumption. He previously participated in the DfT project sustainable development of Heathrow (PSDH) and is currently a member of Defra’s Air Quality Expert Group, coordinator of the DGTREN ARTEMIS project aimed at developing emission, energy and fuel consumption models for road, rail, air and shipping. He is currently involved in the revision of UK road transport emission factors, the development of micro-simulation emission modeling tools, the assessment of tunnel air quality and is the UK representative on COST Action 356, concentrating on sustainable transport. |
