| Description |
Based in our Greater Manchester office you will work as an air quality specialist, within the noise and air quality team. You will be involved in the assessment of air quality for various types of projects across all our business sectors from Waste Management Facilities, through Land and Property, Mining and Minerals, Renewable Energy to Transportation Schemes.
You will undertake air quality modelling and assessment works and be involved from the start to the completion of projects liaising with clients, other team members, employees across the company and third parties such as local authorities, technology providers and transport consultants throughout the process.
As the successful applicant you will have at least 3 years’ experience, ideally within an environmental consultancy, working in the field of air quality. However the position is flexible, and it could equally suit a more senior candidate. You will need experience of air quality modelling, including DMRB, ADMS Roads and AERMOD. You will also need excellent report writing skills and experience of preparing environmental statements and environmental permitting reports. A sound knowledge of air quality legislation and assessment procedures is important. Ideally you will also have experience of client liaison and you will have excellent organisational and numerical skills with experience of managing your own workload. It is essential that you are educated to degree level (or equivalent) with a first degree and/or masters qualification in Environmental Sciences (or similar) or Air Quality. As we work throughout the UK a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is required. |

| Description |
Air quality specialist with at least 2 years’ experience in environmental consultancy is required to join a successful and existing air quality team within a large, dynamic environmental consultancy.
Your role will be to undertake air quality assessments, as part of EIAs and as stand-alone reports, for both our internal and external clients, covering a range of sectors including property development, waste and industry.
The project workload will be varied and include odour assessments, transportation-related assessments, point source modelling, as well as ambient air quality monitoring studies You should have experience in the use of at least one of the following dispersion models; Breeze Roads, ADMS Roads and/or ADMS for assessing the air quality impacts of road traffic and/or industrial sources. Personal attributes of the successful candidate will include enthusiasm, adaptability and excellent communication skills.

Applications are invited for a new 18 months, part time (25-30%), policy placement secondment opportunity to work with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) on its Atmosphere and Local Environment Programme (ALE) in London. This secondment is offered as part of NERC's policy placement fellowship scheme which allows researchers and other staff involved in environmental science research to work closely with policy-makers within government and other public and third sector organisations in the UK.
The purpose of this policy placement is to provide a technical lead for air quality modelling. The Atmosphere and Local Environment (ALE) Programme in Defra has recently undertaken a review of it atmospheric modelling portfolio lead by an independent steering group. Building on the recommendations from the review, Defra is now developing a strategy for atmospheric modelling. The strategy will ensure future evidence needs for policy development are met through activities which will need implementing and managing in the short, medium and long term. |
